Ballajura Lions Club

Ordinary people doing extraordinary things - supporting people with a disability, community greening, fundraising for worthwhile causes.

On an annual basis we fundraise approximately $20,000 via the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle, a prize wheel we conduct at local fairs, sale of Lions Christmas Cakes and Lions Mints and sale of Christmas Hampers which we distribute to local, national and International causes.

During the last financial year we have assisted with the purchase of a small gopher/scooter for a Ballajura girl, with the purchase of a wheelchair hoist fitted van for a Marangaroo boy, with the purchase of a walker for a Wanneroo woman, with the purchase of an oxygen machine for a Ballajura woman and to pay for travel expenses for a Marangaroo boy with disabilities to attend a table tennis tournament in Victoria.

We have also donated towards Quad Dreamers, a group that has organised Quad bikes that have been adapted for the use of disabled children in a safe environment in Wanneroo; assisted with a lunch for the frail aged in Wanneroo; conducted a Christmas dinner and bus ride for Ballajura seniors to visit the city and see the Christmas lights there and also decorated homes; purchased sporting and art supplies for a local scout group to present to the Derby Cubs during their visit; assisted a Vietnamese girl attend the Blind Institute and donated towards the purchase of loan computers for the Institute; and we have for several years conducted a memorial award at the three government primary schools in Ballajura providing $500 to each school for students attending Ballajura College the following year. We also sponsor two or three children in our annual Lions Children of Courage awards held at St Marys Anglican Girls School in Karrinyup where they have persevered and overcome adversity in their lives.

Our April Sausage Sizzle profit goes towards the Lions Blood Cord and Childhood Cancer Research Appeal and is part of their world’s largest BBQ promotion.
We also donate to the Breast Cancer Foundation, Leukaemia Foundation, Australian Red Cross, Foodbank towards the Lions & Rotary Rice Bowl appeal, Ruby Benjamin Foundation to assist pensioners with the cost of sterilising pets, the annual Lions Walk for Sight at Perry Lakes and this year towards the Lions Victorian Bushfire and Queensland Flood appeals.

In previous years we have purchased an electric bed for a girl in Landsdale and a wheelchair for a boy in Kingsley.
With the larger individual requests we contact other Lions Clubs in the area for their assistance and also have access to matching funds from the Australian Lions Foundation.
